This Causes Gas Explosion

 NEPAWORLD

Kathmandu-  Gas cylinder accidents have been taking place due to weakness in experimentation and lack of awareness and testing. According to sources, most industries do not perform hydraulic testing of gas cylinders on time.

"According to the Nepal Quality Act, the thickness of a cylinder sheet should be 2.9 mm (mm), but when inspected, it is found up to 1.8 mm. When the sheet is thin, it explodes," said Premlal Maharjan, chairman of the National Consumers Forum. '

Regulators and gas pipes are also found in the market but they are not monitored. "The quality and measurement department should look into the quality of cylinders and regulators," Maharjan said. The Oil Corporation and the Department of Commercial Supplies and Consumer Protection are also responsible for inspecting gas, regulators and pipes. Regulators and pipes are not only produced domestically, but are also imported in sufficient quantities. Most do not follow quality standards.

Oil Corporation spokesperson Binit Mani Upadhyaya said that the inspection should be done by the quality department under the Quality Mark (NS). ‘In the past, the corporation was also monitoring. Once NS is mandatory, the quality department looks after it. When the industry scrubs the cylinder, the details should also be submitted to the department, 'said Upadhyaya. Bishwababu Pudasaini, Director General of the Department of Quality and Measurement, claimed that the gas industry was being monitored. "We haven't been able to monitor much in the meantime because of the Covid infection and the lockdown. Weights are being monitored sporadically, 'he said. He claimed that there was not much negligence from the industry as the NS mark has become mandatory recently.

According to the department, most of the accidents are caused by regulator valves. The body leakage of the cylinder also causes an accident but it is less likely. ‘Buddy leaks smell when loading / unloading gas. The leakage is known as it will be stored in gas industry, distributors and dealers, 'said Director General Pudasaini. Similarly, when the pipe is fitted, gas leakage occurs when it is not locked properly. "Hard pipes cause problems with the regulator," he said. This is the reason why most of the incidents happen.’ Leaks from stoves and pipes have also caused accidents. Gas leaks when the pipe does not match. "Before using gas, it should be checked thoroughly," said Director General Pudasaini.
